The Inquisitor’s Palace, sited in the heart of Vittoriosa, is an architectural gem, representative of the European history and heritage of the Maltese islands. The Palace was built in the 1530s as the Civil Law Courts of the Order of St. John and was used by the inquisitors from 1574 until 1798, when Napoleon abolished the Inquisition. Apart from careful reconstructions of the tribunal room, the prison complex and the torture chamber, the palace also hosts an exhibition on popular religious devotions in Malta.
