The name Paulus may not be new to those who love good seafood, but since reopening under new management earlier this summer not everyone knows their new chef, Alfio Masini, has brought with him a wealth of international experience including time at a Michelin-Star-winning restaurant.
Alfio started his culinary career in Sicily, his homeland, but has since travelled across the continent, from Denmark to London to France where he studied and work in different establishments.
Blending all this experience with his love for Mediterranean cuisine has made Paulus menu a must for food lovers. While there we tried everything from sweet and sour fried lampuki to swordfish marinated in ginger to a tasty seafood risotto garnished with fresh flowers.
And if you’re looking for a new lunchtime haunt in the north, this restaurant has you covered.
Apart from being one of the few restaurants in Buġibba that is actually open at that time, Paulus amazing view, combined with its delicious food makes it the perfect place for a quick escape from the office, or even a lunch meeting. They also have an upstairs area that can be booked for work events or team-building, they’ll even take care of the sound and equipment.
While thankful for the wonderful experience he gained working in Troisgros, a restaurant just outside Lyon that boasts three Michelin Stars, Alfio says he loves living and working in Malta, particularly because of our Mediterranean tendency to be quite chill about everything.
So whether you’re looking for a tasty dinner or a work-time getaway, Paulus in Buġibba is the obvious choice. Oh, and make sure you order the squid-ink arancini and absolutely always say yes to the special marinated oil offered on fish dishes.
